August 26/27   Match Report by Willi Taylor

All in all the weekend was a success with several highlights for the Bulldogs. Firstly, they qualified to defend their Div I title at Nationals in Las Vegas. Secondly, our own ironman Jimbo Baldwin played in his 100th & 101st games. You might have noticed that the Bulldogs have played a total of 101 games. That's right, he's made them all. Way to go Jimbo.

The weekend started out with a scrappy, low scoring tilt against one of Denver's big rivals, Orange County. Down at the half and having lost big target Jedi to a knee injury early in the game, Denver hung on and kicked an important goal late to win what surely was a heartbreaker for OC. Next up was arch rival San Diego, and they didn't dissapoint. It was a good game both ways with the Lions coming out on the better end of it at the final whistle.

Saturday evening started with a good function down in the Gas Lamp quarter and the Bulldogs doing their best "clowns in a VW" impression. Except it was more of a minivan. And they didn't have funny suits on. From there the party rolled on to the Australian Bar where two rookie shots were in order. New comers Rob Strange and Ben "Chook" Taylor imitated the demo layed down by previous rookie road tripper Jeff "fish" Fisher in fine fashion. The clangor award was a close three way struggle with Sasha eventually winning out for his "Bed & Breakfast" maneouver. Finally Jimbo showed everyone where the term "shotgunnin" comes from for his 100th game award. Fortunately footy wasn't done for the day as the pub then had the Collingwood vs. Carlton shootout on the bigscreen.

Sunday looked to be a slow start for a lot of the fellas and first up was a surprising upstart team donning the Las Vegas jumpers who had pulled out a big upset over Orange County Saturday arvo. But the Bulldogs got off to a good start and racked up goals throughout the contest. The final game of the weekend for the 'dogs was against the Arizona Hawks which they quickly quieted with a few goals to finish off the weekend 3-1. The highlight of Sunday had to be Gazza finding some poor sap's wedding ring on the grounds, collecting the $50 reward, and promptly spending it on post game Coopers for the boys. You're a legend.
