Paul "Ren" Renouf, a founding member of the greatest American footy club, the mighty Denver Bulldogs, is returning to his native Australia after many years in the Denver area. Ren's significance, influence and support of the club will be greatly missed and difficult to replace. He has held virtually all of the board positions from President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretery to Social club director. Ren served as head coach for the 2004 USAFL premiership season, and has also assisted many of the club's previous coaches as well. As a player, Ren's fearlessness and sacrifcing style of play made him one of the toughest Bulldogs in club history. He was a dangerous goal sneak, a relentless defender, and a hard working on-baller. Proof of his courage were his numerous concussions suffered as a result of his refusal to shy away from hard contests. Indeed, his on-field style was ingrained in the club's attitude and winning culture. Ren was granted the highest honor the club can bestow when he was given lifetime membership in 2005 as one of four founding members.
Off the field, Ren was arguably the most talented and popular Bulldog. His uncanny ability to write songs, tell jokes, and be the general 'life of the party' made him a favorite in all occasions. His guitar was never far away from him, and any Bulldog event usually found Ren serending his mates with some song that was applicable to the day. Of course, one of Ren's most notable abilities was his penchant for disrobing and streaking at opportune moments. His best streak was at the inaugural USA Revolution match in Chicago in 1999. At 3 quarter time in a tight game versus Canada, USA coach Paul Roos' speech to his players was interrupted by a balding, sculpted man jogging slowly across the center square, none other than the Bulldog's own Ren. As always, Rens once again stole the show.
It is with sadness and nostaglia the Bulldogs say goodbye to one of its favorite sons.
Ren will always have a place in our history, lore, and hearts. We will miss you greatly, mate, and wish you and Stacy well in your new home.
